I interviewed Alessio Lorusso, CEO & Founder at Roboze. Roboze is an Italian Tech Startup on their mission to revolutionise the Additive Manufacturing business, providing the best professional 3D printers for extreme industrial applications in the Oil&Gas, Automotive, Motorsport, Aerospace, Manufacturing and Defense sectors.
Why did you create Roboze?
Additive Manufacturing allows a company to reduce the lead-time of a product and better control the quality and the cost of the components in its manufacturing line. It also guarantees more freedom in terms of design and possibility to produce components that could not be easily made with traditional manufacturing because of too long production time and extremely high costs.
That’s where Roboze comes into play. With headquarters in Italy and a branch in US, Roboze designs and manufactures state-of-the-art 3D printing solutions for Additive Manufacturing applications.
Alessio Lorusso, Roboze CEO & Founder, has always been interested in the 3D Printing technology.
He grew up in an entrepreneurial environment working in his father’s mechanical and metal workshop for years. A huge passion for motorsport, manufacturing and technology led him to build at only 17 years old the first 3D printer with a Beltless System in the world. That’s how Roboze was born in 2013.
What is Roboze’s mission?
Roboze’s mission is to revolutionise the Additive Manufacturing business, providing the best professional 3D printers for extreme industrial applications in the Oil&Gas, Automotive, Motorsport, Aerospace, Manufacturing and Defense sectors.
In particular, Additive Manufacturing is changing the future of the aerospace and defense sectors: here the biggest challenge is to reduce the weights of the aircrafts with lighter parts, keeping high the performance standard of the produced components.
How do you help your customers and partners?
Many industry leaders in the Aerospace, Motorsport, Oil&Gas and Automotive sectors have introduced Roboze 3D printing technology in their manufacturing processes, reducing production costs and time in the most extreme environments.
Roboze high temperature super polymers and composite materials are indeed able to meet the most extreme needs, in terms of mechanical, thermal, chemical properties and Metal Replacement purposes. Using polymers instead of metals is incredibly advantageous thanks to the possibility to reduce the weights of the parts and get more workability of the plastics compared to metal alloys.
What makes Roboze different?
Roboze 3D printing technology – for example PEEK, the semi-crystalline thermoplastic polymer with the most extreme performance thanks to its mechanical properties, plus excellent thermal and chemical resistance – allows the companies to replace light alloys like aluminium with super polymers guaranteeing the reduction of weights, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Roboze is always on track with all the latest technological developments because the industry is changing quickly. It is crucial to invest a lot of work in R&D, that’s why most of Roboze employees are engineers, about 80% of the team. Thanks to the product innovations presented over the last few years, in particular the patented Beltless System (that removed belts from FFF 3D printing) and the HVP extruder (mechanical gem able to manage the viscosity of super polymers like PEEK, Carbon PEEK and ULTEM™ AM9085F), Roboze is able to create real advantages in terms of precision, flexibility and customization for its customers.
New Heat Treatment Process.
It is also focused on covering all the production phases with Additive Manufacturing technology thanks to its new Heat Treatment Process, a system developed to manage from pre-printing procedures to post-processing finishing.
